What is Obamacare?

The Affordable Care Act signed by President Barack Obama in March 2010 is known as Obamacare. The law makes health care more affordable and accessible for all Americans.

With these objectives, Obamacare subsidizes premium costs. It also makes payments to healthcare providers to keep deductibles relatively low. And it commits them to offering essential health benefits, beyond the plan contracted by the patient.

Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, aims at three essential premises:

  • Offer alternatives that significantly reduce health costs in the United States.
  • Allow Americans access to healthcare through affordable health insurance plans.
  • Expand the Medicaid health program for low- and very low-income people.
  • Obamacare has helped millions of Americans get the quality health care they need at affordable prices.
  • With Obamacare, you can get individual and family plans that cover at least 10 essential health services, including emergency care and hospitalization.

What Coverage and Services are covered by Obama Care?

The Obama Care Act offers medical protection to all citizens and legal residents of the United States. With a wide variety of policies available in what is known as the Health Marketplace, it helps us obtain health and financial protection in the following cases:

  • Emergencies
  • Specialist Consultations
  • Laboratory tests
  • Rehabilitation
  • Preventive Health Consultations
  • Prescriptions
  • Hospitalization
  • Mental Health and Addiction Treatment
  • Services
  • Maternity and Newborn Care
  • Pediatric Services
  • Before the advent of Obamacare, the healthcare situation in the United States was difficult, especially for people with low incomes and pre-existing conditions.

Thanks to Obamacare, the inconveniences with health insurance have been reduced exponentially. For example, it allows pregnant women to be protected throughout pregnancy, during and after childbirth, as well as their children. In addition, people with pre-existing conditions, the disabled, or the elderly cannot be rejected by any insurer.
